SUMMER 2009
Spring 2009

News & Events

Last year saw over 1500 animal intakes, and many other accomplishments!

SCWR has been flourishing, taking in well over 1500 animals in 2008. This is a significant benefit to the community, and to wildlife. Keep in mind that Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue is a private, non-profit organization. We receive no funds from the County of Sonoma.

Other accomplishments include:

  • Successfully launched our Wildlife "Exclusion" service, which helps homeowners keep wild animals out of their homes. This is a fee-based service because it requires staff, labor, and material costs. Our Board of Directors intentionally set fees to be far lower than traditional services. This service is in direct support of our charter - allowing the animals to live outside where they belong. Traditional "removal" services must, by law, kill the animal - often leaving babies to die under the home.
  • Added the Avian Team, a full staff of bird rescue experts with 50 years combined experience.
  • Added a new Animal Care Director
  • Presented many educational classes to area schools
  • Expanded our program for troubled youths. This is an outstanding program - it's amazing what happens when young people get hands-on experience caring for animals!
  • Changed newsletter format to full color glossy print.
  • Public awareness of SCWR expanded greatly in 2008.
