Rescue and Release

 A great Horned Owl came in on the sunny   afternoon of New Years Eve. He was found by brothers Christopher and Michael, who spend a lot of time out on the land at Tara Firma Farms, where their mom works. They got a hold of Pete, the Director of  'Out Side In Nature,' and his rescue posse. who followed  the boys to the injured injured owl who was out on the hillside pasture. The owl was scooped up and they brought him straight to Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue.

Upon arrival it was discovered the owl had a broken right wing and not just one bone but both his radius and ulna were fractured. This little bird came in on a good day because our Good Samaritan Veterinarian, Dr. Dan Famini, was at the center giving a tour and was able to check him out. The owl was very lucky because the bones broke in just the right spot for repair and he was rushed off to a local vet office, North Park Vet Clinic in Rohnert Park, where his wing was pinned back together.

He is now recovering in our hospital and will continue his recovery until he is strong enough to fly, which can take up to 3 months. He will be released back where he was found so he can continue to live in the home he set up for himself.
