Class Descriptions and TimesSonoma County Wildlife Rescue (SCWR) offers education and training in accordance with the Department of Fish and Game and our SCWR policies. There are 3 main classes that we try to offer on a monthly basis. Many other classes are offered as well, but not on a regular monthly basis. (see Calendar of Events) Volunteer Orientation3-hour class that gives an overview of our volunteer opportunities. We also provide information of the S.C.W.R. history and some of our policies. We will use a slide presentation to bring to life some of the ways you can participate in the rehabilitation of Sonoma County’s wildlife. You will have the opportunity to commit to a volunteer position with S.C.W.R. or give it some further thought. This class is required for all people interested in volunteering with S.C.W.R. The volunteer orientation is a prerequisite to other classes and training sessions. When: The second Saturday of every month from 10:00am to 1:00 pm. Introduction to Wildlife Rehabilitation ClassA 2-hour class that introduces permits and policies required to rehabilitate and care for wildlife, intake, exam and basic physical care of orphaned, sick and injured wildlife. You will get your permit to work with wildlife, and a certificate of completion. All volunteers are required to take this class in order to be part of the rescue and foster care teams. Advanced rehabilitation classes are offered on an as needed basis, that are also required to work with each species. There is a $10.00 charge to cover the costs of educational materials. When: The fourth Saturday of every month. SCWR Educational Outreach TrainingFor those who want to help with public events and appearances, and educational presentations in schools and classrooms. This is a 2-hour class. We will go over how to set up an education booth for public appearances, and how a classroom presentation is done. You will also meet Spirit, our Red-Tailed hawk, who is part of our Education Team. We will talk about the opportunities of handling and presenting him to the public for education purposes. This class is required for volunteers who want to be part of our Education Team. All volunteers are welcome to take this class because of the importance in educating the public on wildlife and their environment and our peaceful co-existence together. There is a $10.00 charge to cover the costs of educational materials. When: Scheduled Saturdays, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
