Community Volunteer Opportunities
Our
goal is to help create a knowledgeable and nurturing relationship with the
environment through rehabilitation and education. As part of this goal, we
provide the opportunity for people to make a personal contribution to this
effort. We take our responsibility to volunteers very seriously. Our
Volunteer Coordinator provides three training sessions per month. We also
provide a volunteer meetings with an educational guest speaker. Here
are some of the ways you can help.
Foster
Care Team
Orphaned and injured animals are kept and cared for at the volunteer's home
until they are too big for their facilities or are ready for release.
On-Call
Team
We have three shifts per day. Volunteers regularly check in with our 24-hour
answering service to retrieve calls from the public. These calls are for
animals needing assistance and questions regarding wildlife. This team is
the first link to the public and our goal is to respond in a professional,
respectful, and timely manner. Volunteers handle these calls from either
their home or office. Emergencies are immediately routed to our volunteers
by our answering service.
Rescue
Team
Rescue volunteers are trained to assess animal emergencies and situations as
they arise. Safety is a priority for both the volunteer
and the public.
Education
Team
Volunteers are invited to help with classroom presentations and other
community educational programs. Our Educational Outreach Coordinator trains
volunteers for classroom presentations for children and adults. We also
participate in many community events such as the Harvest Fair, Santa Rosa
Fair, Earth Day events, Polly Klass Foundation, and many more.
Special
Projects
Throughout the year we have "work parties" which encompass
cleaning, cage building, repair, and various light construction. Some
examples are:

publication, grant writing, public relations and other administrative and
computer needs.
Board
of Directors
Our Board
of Directors is accepting applicants from motivated and skilled individuals
who are looking for opportunities to serve at the Board of Directors level.
Board membership carries with it a serious responsibility to the
organization. Call our office at
(707)
544-6713 to inquire further.
Volunteer
Orientation
Volunteer orientation classes are held each month.
This 2 hour class provides an overview of our volunteer opportunities. We
also provide information of the S.C.W.R. history and some of our policies.
We will use a slide show to bring to life some of the ways you can
participate in the rehabilitation of Sonoma Countys wildlife. You will have
the opportunity to commit to a volunteer position with S.C.W.R. or give it
some further thought. This class is required for all people interested in
volunteering with S.C.W.R.
