Our most important goal for children is to cultivate compassion, love and understanding of animals and plant life that need our support. As each student learns to care for PEEP animals and our organic garden, they also gain independence, self-confidence and master meaningful life skills that can be applied in school and at home.

PEEP Extracurricular Activity Description

The Predator Exclusion and Education Program (PEEP) serves children between the ages of 5 and 17. Participants choose a weekly 2-hour shift during which they receive a personalized lesson. In the educational barnyard, students participate in individual and small group lessons from our PEEP instructors, according to the needs of the program and the students themselves. Students are assigned projects to work on independently as they master different areas of the program. Our instructors spend about 1 hour of the 2-hour shift giving instructions and guidance. We then allow the child to spend the remaining hour practicing their new skills on their own or with another student while instructors provide support as needed.

Lessons can be taken one-on-one with an instructor or students can sign up with a friend and have a lesson together. The program has a total of three 6-month semesters. If a child is not comfortable moving to a new level, they can re-enroll in their current semester.

Parents or guardians with a student who is under the age of 13, or who might need additional support, should plan on staying with their child during their PEEP lessons. The program is not intended to be a "drop-off" opportunity for parents. In fact, we always encourage parents to stay and enjoy this experience with their child if they choose to. Older students who can drive themselves are welcome to participate without any parent or guardian support as long as they are feeling successful in the program.

To get all of our participants off to a successful start, we do require a 2-hour introductory class for both parent and child to attend together. This class will explain more details about the PEEP program. Introductory classes are scheduled as needed. See below for contact information.

Tuition Options for 6-month Semester

 Free

“I could really use a little help until things get better for me.”

 $400

“I am doing ok, but still really need to watch my budget.”

 $500

“Things are going well for me at the moment. I would even like to give a little extra to help others.”

Scholarships are available for families who could use assistance. No matter what financial choice families are able to make, all students participate in an equally loving and safe environment.

The "free" tuition option is made possible by our Isabella Scholarship Fund. If you or someone you know would benefit from this service, please contact our executive director at 707-486-0226 or by email scwrdoris@scwildliferescue.org.

For families who are able to pay for tuition, the fee provides vital funding to help cover the costs of running this education program and the other non-profit work we do here at SCWR. We thank you for supporting our work.

To find out how you and your child can join the program, please contact our PEEP instructor, Natalie Jones, at PEEP@scwildliferescue.org or call our office to leave a message 707-992-0274.

Thank you for considering our program. We hope to hear from you soon!
